EASTERN CONFERENCE -Saxonia calling and OUT OF RAINFALL

WHAT A WEEKEND TO BEGIN WITH . It has been my first 1000 kms back on the bike this year after all the masterturmoils of the first 4 months. As much as it kept me from riding my "Almighty" before May this year , as much this trip to Saxonia was compensating for it all.

Following Manfred Hoffmanns invitation to a worldtravellers bikermeeting in Struppen near Dresden in Eastern Germany- I have to confess and blame myself at the same time. To confess this was my first trip ever to Saxonia`s Ore mountains. And to blame myself , I did not do this much, much earlier.
Escorted by splendid weather I rode one of my best motorrcycle trips ever . More than 1000 kms in 2 days through fantastic , scenic major and minor roads with anything from firstclass pavement and 2 m pottholes, close to Kasachan Standard. All this was acoompanied by respectful and gentle people - and meeting real original travellers and bikers at Manfreds place in Struppen.

Biggest surprise was to meet Herbert from Belgium again - bikerfriend and brother of Veerle, who Hombre and me met in Krasnojarsk in 2008 ( she right now is travelling Vietnam - this is a big hello to you Veerle from Germany -enjoy the trip). Herbert recently returned from the Panamerican Highway on his GS 1200 - guys would not belive his 130000 km on the clock of his 2010 model - 26 trips to Russia and I guess hardly any place on earth that he has not been to on a bike ;-)

Manfred is a longdistance biker himself- joining bikers each year in Struppen for a globerider meeting . Besides he is running a small but valuable pulishimg company , that publishes globeriderstories and informations - well worth reading for information as much as finding new intuition for the next trip

Of many great people on this weekend there were to wonderful and outstanding ones . Karin and Eberhard- Meeting each other at their early 70s , Eberhard took her on their first together sidecartrip to : Djanet, Algheria, Central Sahara - As if this was not tough enough for our "young girl" at the age of 72 she decided to go for her motorcycle drivers licence - and passed it. So now they not only married in the meantime, but come down all the way from Oldenburg in northern Germany - each on a rebuild Russian Djnepr-Sidecar. If I have any wish for getting older at all - please dear god - that´s the way to do it. In their hearts those two running towards their 80s are ways younger than so many who think they are. This is the stories only bikers will ever come across - simply wonderful to experience.

And if all this was not good enough - running back home I passed a little village named "RAINFALL" - so by the end of town I had the privilege to leave "Rainfall" behind - what an outlook for this years summer

Thank you Moni and Manfred for organizing a great bikers venue - we will be back to Saxonia and you as soon as possible - actually Petra and me changed our holiday plans this year to Saxonia and Eastern Germany.

YIIIIIIIIIIIIIIHHHAAAAA ! The Masterthesis is DONE !

What a happy and sunny day after 2 years and 6 Months remotestudy - I today completed my masterthesis , which now will be assessed by the professorship for the next 2 months before the result will be informed. But pressure is off and Baba is back for chasing life itself again .

Pura vida - hay que bailarla !

Nach zweinhalb Jahren heftigsten Fernstudiums habe ich heute meine Masterabeit abgegeben -die jetzt die nächsten 2 Monate beim Lehrstuhl zur Bewertung vorliegt. 138 Seiten mit 300 Füßnoten und 17 Seiten selbst recherchierten Quellen - so geht das , wenn man es anständig und selbst macht- und kein Freiherr, sondern ehrlicher Arbeiter ist ;-) Ich melde mich mich offiziel zurück zum Tanz in den Mai und das Leben selbst !

Mordanschlag auf Motorradfahrer im Unterallgäu: POLIZEIFAHNDUNG ! Bitte unbedingt lesen

Liebe Biker und alle anderen Leser !

Es ist so unglaublich krank und bitter, was letzten Sonntag im Unterallgäu passiert ist.

Ein Bikerkollege mit 37 Jahren , Vater von 2 Kindern mußte sterben, weil ein Albtraum wahr wurde. Eine an Seele und Herz gestörte, kranke Persönlichkeit hat absichtlich an 10 Stellen des Unterallgäus die Strassen verölt . An einer dieser Stellen kam der Biker zum Sturz und prallte frontal in einen entgegenkommenden PKW. Er verstarb an der Unfallstelle. Eine Stelle , an der auch ich regelmäßig mit dem Bikeauf dem Weg in die Klinik vorbeikomme, so wie jeder von uns an dieser Stelle hätte sein können. Den Angehörigen und Freunden des Verunglückten gehört das ganze Mitgefühl der Bikergemeinde.

Den oder die Täter werden wir Biker solange suchen, bis sie der gerechten Strafe dafür zugeführt werden. Bitte clickt den Link hier im Text mit dem Fahndungsaufruf der Kriminalpolizei an.

Die Polizei hat eine Belohnung von 5000 Euro für Hinweise, die zur Aufklärung des Verbrechens oder zur Festnahme des oder der Täter(s) führen ausgesetzt. Ich füge dieser Belohnung persönlich weitere 100 Euro hinzu.

Master of disaster ;-)

Dear friends,

Just as a little lifesign after weeks and months of latenite working on my masters thesis -
it has been more than 2 years of mostly , but definitely not always delightful studies . and this is the final stretch to go now , spending nights and days in the varsity library to finally finish my masterthesis. And believe me - there is a life after this - and summers ahead . Looking forward to return to a world of friends - starting off with a longdistance bikermeeting near Dresden in the east of Germany. All bikers welcome - as long as you bring your own tent, good spirits and a loooooooad of mileage with you - so come on and jump in on the 7th of may with more good fellas and contact me if U like .
Let´s all ride for the SUMMER now....

aus den Tiefen der Unibibliothek, wo ich die meisten Tage und auch Nächte der letzten Woche und Monate an meiner Masterarbeit knechte ( was durchaus oft , aber ganz ehrlich nicht immer Spass gemacht hat ) ein kleines Lebenszeichen - dem Sommer entgegen. Über 2 Jahre berufsbegleitendes Studium sind jetzt auf die Endstrecke eingebogen - und Freunde , es wird eine Leben nach der masterarbeit geben . und was für eines :-)

Los geht´s mit einem Fernreisetreffen in der Nähe von Dresden in den Kurven des Erzgebirges am 7. Mai - wenn ihr Zelt, ordentlich Kilometer auf dem Buckel und viel gute Laune mitbringt - es ist noch Platz am Lagerfeuer ! Und wenn ihr meint , das sei zu weit für ein Wochenende - Herbert kommt aus Belgien mit seiner GS...

Bis dahin kämpfe ich meinen Kampf mit Fußnoten und Zitaten - aber wenigstens kämpfe ich ihn ehrlich und selbst - bin ja auch kein Freiherr .)

Geniesst den Frühling und fahrt vorsichtig - gerade jetzt am Saisonanfang .

BUSY BABAS BIKE GOES WHEELIES

Dear Friends ,
Liebe Freunde ,

I say sorry for having been offline ways too long - but there is very good reasons to do so these days .
Mainly work in combination with my masters thesis kept and keeps me off writing too much in the blog . I promise this gets better from April onwards - as the end of march is deadline for my thesis - and it will be deadline for a longtime study parallel to my hospital work. Getting back to a bikers life - back to the roads and the time you friends deserve - this is a promise :-)

Ein großes Sorry für die wenigen Posts bisher im Neuen Jahr - aber gute Gründe haben mich für längere Zeit vom Schreiben abgehalten und werden das voraussichtlich auch noch ein Weilchen tun. Seit über 2 Jahren hält mich mein Fernstudium neben dem reichlich vorhandenen Klinikbetrieb unter Strom - aber genau wie die Ziellinie für meine Masterarbeit am 31. März überschritten sein muß ( und wird! ) genauso sicher wird das der Start für die Rückkehr in ein anderes Leben - zurück auf den endlosen Strassen und zu den Freunden dieser Welt - nehmt mich beim Wort - dieses Versprechen schulde ich Euch :-)

But in between all this one of the many little highlights was , when our friend Hatt Sommer from HATTECH asked me , to show BABAs Bike at the WHEELIES ferry in Ulm from 8-9th of January . What a crowd when more than 10000 people moved all over the halls to see the latest bike novelties . Just one bike was allowed to be look really used and second hand amongst all the shining custom bikes , streetfighters and BOSS HOSS 990 horsepower at the really basic price of 152.000 € : BABAS Little Harley Hunter F 650 GS Dakar. 68000 kms on the clock now - and running like the first day .

Aber trotz aller Mühen gab und gibt es auch in diesen Tagen eine Unzahl kleiner Höhepunkte. Einer davon die Einladung unseres Freunds Hatt Sommers von HATTECH, Babas Bike auf der WHEELIES Messe vom 8.-9. Jamuar auszustellen .
Wow - mehr als 10000 Besucher an 2 Tagen einer sehr schönen Bikermesse - auf der zwischen chromblitzenden Custombikes , dem Bosshoss-990-PS-Monster für schlappe 152.000 € allein Babas Litttle-Harley-Hunter stolz ihre auf den letzen 68.000 km erworbenen Narben zeigen und Geschichten von der Strasse erzählen durfte- und warum sie immer noch läuft und läuft und läuft ...und wo sie noch hinwill :-)
A lot of good biker talks came along with so many great guys whilst the Ride-of-Change-2008 slideshow was presented on 2 big flatscreens . Bikers who shared all the same - the longing for distance and freedom in their looks - maybe this is what makes the difference from showbikers to people on the road ?!

Viele gute Benzingespräche mit Bikern , denen allen das Fernweh in den Augen stand , während im Hintergrund die Bilder zur Weltreise auf 2 großen Flatscreens liefen .
Vielleicht ist es ja genau das was Biker von Menschen auf Motorrädern unterscheidet !?

Not to mention the great people in and around Hatts team - it was a pleasure to be with you for the weekend . And one thing really impressing me , when Hatt and friends stepped into the panniers to give a bit of an impression of durability - I have not seen anything alike that quality around the world - including our custommade own ones . Have a look yourself and for more of Hatt´s stuff
Es bedarf keiner besonderen Erwähnung , daß man ich in Hatts Team einfach wohlfühlen muß -
danke Euch allen für ein tolles Bikerwochenende - obwohl wir keinen Meter gefahren sind .
Ein echtes Highlight war aber dann noch Hatts Belastungstest für seine in einer unglaublichen Qualität gefertigten Alukoffer - auf den Reisen um die Welt habe ich nichts vergleichbares gesehen -aber schaut selbst , ob ihr das mit Euren Kisten machen würdet . But the nicest little pannierbiker we found in BABAs box - isn´t she cute ?!

Aber den süßesten kleinen Koffertourzewerg gab es dann doch in Babas Koffer zu bestaunen -
ist sie nicht süß !?

The Rosenberg-Special 13-14th of November 2010

Our dearest Jenny, Joe and Alana !

How can we put this very special weekend into words - that we spend together in the extremes of Dachaus cruel history and Neuschwansteins everlasting romantic beauty.

It was Alanas decision during her Paris stay to take us all to Dachaus concentrationcamp history . And may we all be blessed , none of us had to live in this time of human darkness . Yet we could breath and inhale the resposibility of today , to step out on any idea or tendency to bring back racism and intolerance back to the world. It is still there, to blame others for ones own failure in life and find somebody else guilty . And is the the task of the living , to resist and sand up for the rights of those who cannot.

Yet we felt something very special too, when we took our walk through the insane cruelties , symbolized by the enty gate "Arbeit macht frei " - the incredible will and strength of people that could not be broken by the most terrifying means - and thus always left the light of hope behind the barbed wired, colourless darkness of the camp.

So what a contrast this was to wake up the next morning in bright NOVEMBER sunshine in the Allgäu alps in Pfronten :-) Hiking up the Poellat gorge to our immortal Mad King Ludwigs fairytale-castle of Neuschwanstein !

There´s nothing much better to tell it in your words :
"This is the most beautiful place we have ever been to "

Definitely good enough a reason to come back in summer for a longer stay ! We promise there is more to it !

We met each other on a very special day in Alaska , made ends meet in New York and closed the friendship circle in Germany - This exactly is, what makes travelling so unique . Its all about friendship - and our house will always be your house. Come back anytime - you are so welcome !
